We Changed Our Name!

After many years of operating as Cowlitz County ARES®/RACES, we have changed our name to Cowlitz County Auxiliary Communications Service. We felt the more inclusive name better described what has always been our function - to support our community by using our communications skills for public service on many authorized bands and modes.

We are just as likely to use public safety frequencies as we are ham bands, and we frequently practice our Radio Direction Finding skills with our ELT missions. Our activities have always gone beyond traditional ARES® and RACES functions so it seemed time to reflect that in our name. We are not changing our organizational structure, we are merely acknowledging the diversity of our activities.

It seemed appropriate to change our website at the same time. We are attempting to present a cleaner, more friendly site which enables our members to obtain the information they need in a timely manner. Site maintenance should be a little easier, and we have attempted to maintain a browser-neutral environment that doesn't prefer one platform over another. Should you encounter any site issues, please drop the webmaster a note at webmaster@cowlitzradio.org
